Andy Warhol Superstar
Not gonna lie. I totally found this guy from watching Gossip Girl. Now despite that teen-tinged confession, I really admire this guy's art. Specifically, the way that he approaches skin in his paintings piques my interest. It's semi-realistic with a heavy lean towards the impossible perfect. Although almost all of his pieces comes from life, especially the celebrity influenced ones, this approach he takes creates a disconnect between the subjects of his pieces and the viewer. His subjects' impossible perfection leaves you with no reason to empathize, and instead are forced to be overwhelmed by it instead.
I would classify his work as Neo-Pop mainly since like the Pop Artists, his work concerns mass-consumed culture. However, he takes the iconography established by them to a new extreme. He attempts to present us - the viewers - with the faces of our modern gods.
