I tried so hard every Saturday since its opening to come. Yet something always got in the way. At one point I thought they'd pack it up and open a new exhibit by the time I could free up some space. But today, I finally was able to come. I did have to squeeze it between a rock and a hard place, but I made it work. And it was so worth it.
Rodin's approach to his figures are masterful. I mean that was obvious considering his fame, but approaching the figures up-close blows away just looking at pictures. There are just small details that escape the eye of the camera. What I found the most spectacular was Rodin's use of shadows in his work. His ability to craft the figure in such a way that it provokes such a dramatic lighting is impressive. While his figures aren't copies of life exactly, I attribute their seeming vitality to the shadows he created. They're so rich and so intense that it evokes life. I will take this revelation to heart. The shadows it seems are the key to life.
I am completely blown away by the exhibition. When I first heard from its head designer - Trang - how amazing the exhibit actually was, I didn't realize that I was underestimating it. She really nailed it when she initially praised the presentation. I was blown away by both the lighting and the tone that the designers came up with. It set the proper mood and attenuated the viewer to the works on display.
